The North Cascades National Park Service Complex has provided an update on wildfire activity within the park.

Border 2 Fire

Fire activity has increased due to recent hot, dry, and windy weather conditions. The Border 1 and Border 2 Fires have merged and are now being managed as the Border 2 Fire, currently estimated at approximately 300 acres.

The lightning-caused fire is burning in remote, steep terrain along the U.S.–Canada border, approximately 1.5 miles east of Hozomeen. The fire has crossed into Canada and extends onto lands managed by the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

Firefighters continue full-suppression efforts using both ground crews and aerial firefighting resources, including helicopters, water-scooping aircraft, and air attack support.

Luna Fire

The Luna Fire remains approximately 22 acres in size. Firefighters continue suppression efforts, and only minimal smoke has been reported from this fire.

Visitor Closures

For public safety, several area, trail, and campsite closures remain in effect.

Additionally:

• The north end of Ross Lake is closed to recreational use.

• Crossing the U.S.–Canada border by boat or on foot is prohibited.

• Visitors on Ross Lake should stay clear of aircraft using the lake for wildfire suppression operations.

Fire Restrictions Remain in Effect

Fire restrictions continue throughout the North Cascades National Park Service Complex.

Campfires and the use of wood, charcoal, briquettes, or other solid-fuel fires are prohibited in all areas of the park.

Portable gas or propane stoves, grills, and lanterns remain permitted for cooking when used safely and kept at least three feet from any flammable vegetation.

Smoke Conditions

Smoke may be visible throughout the Ross Lake area as fire activity continues. Air quality conditions can change quickly depending on weather and fire behavior.

Drone Reminder

The use of drones is prohibited near wildfire operations. Unauthorized drone flights can force firefighting aircraft to stop operations, delaying emergency response and creating additional safety hazards.

Stay Informed

Residents and visitors are encouraged to check official National Park Service resources before traveling into the North Cascades, as fire conditions, closures, and restrictions may change.
